Kidron Volleyball Club Wins East Coast
Championship
The Kidron Volleyball
Club made an impressive showing at the East Coast Championship Tournament in Pittsburgh over the Memorial Day Weekend, winning
the 18-Select Division. The team, which consisted of 16- and 17-year old players, finished ahead of 19 other teams, posting
a 9-1 record in match play and a 19-3 mark in set play during the three-day competition. "It was an exceptional performance,”
said John Finn, head coach and club director. “Our girls were outstanding against a very tough field, which included
teams from Canada, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York, Illinois, and a number of other states.” Kidron
was led by middle hitters Lori Inkrottand
Audrey Metzger, who will be seniors at Triway
and Dalton, respectively, in the fall. The two standouts dominated the net with their hitting and blocking, and also scored
from the back row and the serving line. They were joined by junior setter Tessa Books (Triway), who is one of the state’s top players at her position,
and senior liberoMarlowe
Beatty (Dalton), who is one of the best defensive players in Ohio. In addition, outside hitters Kenzie McFarlin(Ashland) and Anna Miley (Northwestern) provided a powerful
and consistent attack at the net and aggressive serves from the end line, while Kylie Hawkins (West Holmes) and Carolyn Beatty
(Dalton) played vital roles, both offensively and defensively.
“Our players were simply sensational,” said Finn. “Not only did they excel as individuals,
but they really put things together as a team. We are extremely proud of their accomplishment.”
